Elon Musk promises to make things right after Tesla leaves a small bakery with an unpaid order

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has personally promised to correct a mistake by the electric vehicle maker that left a small San Jose business in a difficult situation. According to Musk in a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, people and companies should be able to rely on Tesla to always do its best.

According to a Kron4 report, Voahangy Rasetarinera of The Giving Pies bakery in San Jose posted on social media about her experience with the electric vehicle manufacturer. In the past, The Giving Pies' customers have included large corporations such as Apple and Google. When the company received an order for 2,000 cakes from Tesla, Rasetarinera and her team got to work.

As Rasetarinera noted, Tesla later updated the order to 4,000 cakes. The additional assignment required her and her staff to work Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. During this time, the bakery decided to refuse other orders from various customers as they were busy fulfilling Tesla's order. Rasetarinera said she asked Tesla several times to get payment for the order, but was later told by the company that the cakes were no longer needed.

“To complete the assignment, I had turned down other Black History Month catering requests, purchased supplies, and prepared for a demanding production schedule. I called Laura at 2pm only to get her voicemail. A few minutes later, my hopes were dashed when I received a text from Laura casually informing me that the plan had changed and Tesla would no longer need the order. This abrupt about-face left me shaken and made me realize how big of an impact it had on my small business,” Rasetarinera wrote in her social media post.

Tesla is a newsworthy company, so it was no surprise that the failed contract made the rounds in media reports. Luckily for the business owner, this also meant that Tesla CEO Elon Musk saw the story on X. In a response on the social media platform, Musk noted that it was the first he had heard of the story. He also pointed out that he will achieve good results with the small company.

“I'm just hearing about it. Will do well with the bakery. People should always be able to trust Tesla to do its best,” Musk wrote.

In a comment to Kron4, Rasetarinera noted that she received a message from Tesla after posting her story on social media. She stressed that she is ready to give the company a chance to put things right. “They said they wanted to make it up to me and they offered me to take part in two events on March 6 and 7, but I'm still waiting for confirmation. If they want to do it right, I will give them the opportunity to do it right,” she said.
