Elon Musk recommends investing in physical things

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk placed in Thread on Twitter Monday advises followers to own “physical things” when inflation is high.

In a tweet, Musk said: “In general, for those seeking advice on this topic, it’s generally better to own physical things like a house or shares of companies that you think make good products than dollars when inflation high.

I still own my bitcoins, Ethereum or Doge and won’t be selling them by the way.”

The biggest takeaway for some followers seems to be that Musk is still holding his own. Dogecoin (CRYPTO: DOGE) because shortly after the tweet was posted, the price of the cryptocurrency skyrocketed.

However, the more important point in Musk’s message is that physical assets tend to be the safest investments in times of high inflation. This message, coming from the “father of the Great Danes” himself, should speak volumes.

While Musk mentioned home ownership, real estate generally works well for investors in years of high inflation. In particular, single-family houses, apartment buildings, storage facilities and agricultural land.

Looking to buy real estate may not be the best option for most investors right now, but fortunately there are options to buy fractional real estate shares or even invest in a fund that has a real estate portfolio.

Here are a few ways to buy shares in these inflation-resistant properties.

Single family houses: Real estate crowdfunding platform Arrived Homes has allowed retail investors to buy shares in individual rental properties for as little as $100. The platform allows users to browse real estate like a real estate listing site and simply choose which homes to invest in.

Multi-family: There are several options for passively investing in apartment buildings through crowdfunding. Accredited investors can view offers on sites such as CrowdStreet or RealCrowd and invest in a project with a minimum investment starting from $25,000.

The story goes on

Options for non-accredited investors are a bit more limited, but CalTier Realty has a multi-family fund with a minimum investment of just $500.

Self Storage: Real estate crowdfunding platform RealCrowd is currently offering the Reliant Self-Storage Fund III portfolio with a minimum investment of $50,000. (read the announcement of the offer)

Farmland: Agricultural land can be one of the best long term real estate options available right now. Farmland is shrinking across the country at a rate of more than 1 million acres per year, while global demand for food is growing steadily. Farmland investment platform FarmTogether recently launched a new offer for an organic vineyard in California with a minimum investment of $15,000 (see offer announcement).
