Elon Musk Says “Someone Else” Could Run Twitter Until the End of 2023

Twitter boss Elon Musk announced on Wednesday that by the end of 2023, “someone else” could take over the reins of the social network, which has experienced “roller coasters” between controversy and technical problems under his leadership.

“I think towards the end of this year it should probably be a good time to find someone else to run the business,” he said via video call at a forum in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“I need to stabilize the organization, make sure it’s in a healthy state and the roadmap is clearly defined,” he added.

According to him, Twitter should be “in a stable situation towards the end of this year”.

The management of Elon Musk, who paid around $44 billion to buy the social network in October 2022, continues to cause heated controversy among its users.

“We were treated to a roller coaster ride,” he admitted on Wednesday.

He first announced in late December that he wanted to step down as CEO, saying he was “looking for someone crazy enough” to take his place.

Since Elon Musk’s arrival, Twitter has seen massive layoffs, the return to the platform of accounts it had banned and the suspension of journalists criticizing the South African billionaire.

Racist or hateful tweets have also multiplied, raising concern among internet regulators and scaring off big advertisers, Twitter’s main source of revenue.

Last week, tens of thousands of users reported technical issues, including the inability to tweet, on the day that a new tweet format was launched for subscribers to a paid service.

Elon Musk, who is among the world’s wealthiest businessmen, has also been criticized for neglecting his other businesses, particularly automaker Tesla, whose share price has fallen since he took over Twitter.
