(CNN Spanish) – Argentinian singer Emilia Mernes had plenty of reasons to celebrate last week.

Over the weekend, she was honored with the Rising Star award at the inaugural Billboard Latin Women in Music.

The honor follows the milestone of releasing the first-ever music video, which debuted on Instagram Reels, according to a press release from his label, WK Records.

This is the audiovisual production of “No_Se_Ve.mp3”, a collaboration with Brazilian star Ludmilla.

Emilia and the 2000s as an influence

“Recording this song with Ludmilla, a queen of Brazil, was the best,” Emilia Zona Pop told CNN in a voice note.

“I loved the song when Emilia first sent it to me. Since it wasn’t in my language, I had to love the vibe and then know what she was saying,” Ludmilla Zona tells Pop CNN through another voice memo.

“She gave us the freedom to put our funk on it to bring Brazilian music into the song. We managed to arrange a very tasty rhythm and a very good melody,” added Ludmilla.

Like Jagger.mp3, No_Se_Ve (WK Records) is part of the new music and aesthetic Emilia is presenting for her next record production.

Those of you who grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s will recall that music files (acquired illegally by some, this was the Napster era, after all) almost always ended with the .mp3 nomenclature.

“I’m making and playing a full album inspired by the 1990’s and 2000’s which to me are the golden ages of music and what I listen to the most and what inspires me the most and grew up with. It seemed interesting to me to use .mp3, which was a lot of use at the time, along with the Discman, and it seemed fun to me that my songs end up like this because I feel like it’s also a way of taking them back to that time,” adds the singer.

The song, produced by Zecca, combines Brazilian funk with electronic music and the urban genre. Ludmilla, known in Brazil as the “Queen of the Favela”, sings in Portuguese and Spanish.

A video clip for Instagram

The video clip, made in collaboration with Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has an early 2000s aesthetic, from the colors to the fashion.

In the version released on YouTube (in landscape mode, but with a 4:3 aspect ratio, typical of television of those decades), Emilia can be seen in a typical room from the early 2000s, full of posters on the walls with famous telephones wiretapping and read the then typical youth magazines.

“The video is about Ludmilla being a pop star and I find her in a magazine looking at her with my friends in the room and suddenly I’m transported by magic to where she is and that’s where the video clip appears,” said Emilia. . .

Regarding shooting in portrait format, the singers said it was an unusual experience in their profession. This despite being a format that is now heavily consumed on social networks due to the influence of smartphones and social networks such as TikTok and Instagram.

“It was different because we saw that the camera looked different. We had to be very close together so we could get in (the frame) well. But it turned out great,” said Emilia and Ludmilla.

Billboard’s recognition of Emilia

Emilia is part of the litter of urban Argentinian women making the most noise and growing in the world.

That’s why Billboard gave her the Rising Star award in the first issue of Billboard Mujeres Latinas.

The recognition came from the hands of Elena Rose, one of the fastest growing Latin composers in recent years and who is also part of Emilia’s musical history.

“She’s the first woman I’ve composed in a studio with, I love you!” Emilia said during the gala.

“Receiving this award alongside women I admire and who have shaped my life with their letters is very special. I want to thank all the strong women who are a part of my life and have helped me become the person I am today,” the singer added.

Emilia concluded her speech by telling the girls to “never stop dreaming and always believe in themselves”.

The ceremony also served as the backdrop for No_Se_Ve.mp3’s television debut.

The audios have been edited and compressed for clarity.
