Emily Ratajkowski faces some regret after stepping out in a daring dress.

The 31-year-old model, actress, author and podcaster has been trying to live her best single life since splitting from husband Sebastian Bear-McClad of four. But as a now single mom trying to embrace her multi-faceted personality, Ratajkowski was prepared to meet naysayers.

On the latest episode of her podcast, High Low with EmRata, Ratajkowski addressed the topic with guest Alex Cooper, sharing that as a model, it’s long been difficult for her to be taken seriously in other fields.

“For example, in the morning you have morning sex and then you read the news and you’re mad about something. And then you have a smart talk with your boyfriend and later you put on a kinky dress,” Ratajkowski explained. “It’s part of my reality for me.”

Even as she started having thought-provoking conversations about politics and feminism, people were trying to reinforce her identity as a model and nothing more. After attending W Magazine’s 50th anniversary party in October, she was reminded that viewers didn’t want to show her their due.

“I’ve recently been single, I wore this funny little hooker dress. It was actually, I thought it was pretty chic, it was see through… My friend works for the brand that had the dress, she got it sent to her. I put it on and I was like, ‘Can I do this? Can I leave the house like this?’” she said, referring to the long-sleeved mesh dress that showed off her satin bra and underwear. “Then I thought, ‘I feel myself, this is so much fun.’ You know I’m 31 I had a baby 16 months ago or god no god it’s actually been a year and a half now he’s getting that old and it felt really good.

Before deciding to wear the dress, she recalled sending her friend a photo. “‘Am I wearing this?'” she wrote. “‘Am I authorized?’ Which was a joke, but it wasn’t a joke either.”

She ended up showing up in the dress for about an hour, proud of her body and ready to show it off.

The story goes on

“I had so much fun. I was with all my girlfriends cheering me up, making videos and saying, ‘You want me to post that?!'” she said. “I’m single, it’s fun and it feels good when your friends say, ‘Yeah bitch.’ You know what I mean? So I felt really great, but I knew what was coming.”

The model posted a series of photos to her Instagram showing her look before she received an influx of hate, including comments that read, “Dressing like this just calls for it” and “So you have to be almost naked to get noticed.” will. Sad situation.”

“Suddenly there was this real answer of, ‘How can she expect us to take her seriously while she’s flaunting her body like that?’ And it’s something I’ve heard for ages that I’ve basically just been accused of having extreme internalized misogyny and playing into the male gaze,” she said. “It’s something I think about all the time.”

It even had an impact on how she felt about the look herself.

“If I’m completely honest, I’m ashamed,” she continued. “I feel bad about myself, I feel like I shouldn’t have worn that dress like it was a mistake and I’m ashamed.”

Luckily, Ratajkowski received support from many others, who said she looked “like a goddess” in the dress and wore it well.

“You really know how to dress for a party,” one person commented. Another wrote: “Season of Revenge”.
