Emma Chamberlain leaves fans stunned after ‘demanding’ $10,000 for a DM

Influencer Emma Chamberlain left fans shocked when her website appeared to offer a personalized thank you message from the fashionista for a whopping $10,000.

The 21-year-old internet personality rose to fame after creating vlogs of her life on YouTube and was branded by Time as one of “The 25 Most Influential People on the Internet” in 2019.

But the California native had confused social media users, which appeared as a screenshot from her website on Twitter, offering a “personal thank you message from Emma in Instagram DM.”

Social media went wild when the screenshot surfaced, with reactions ranging from shock that Emma – who has 12million subscribers on YouTube – would charge so much, to judgment that anyone would offer to pay it.

However, her reps have since clarified that the claim that Emma is asking $10,000 for DMs is “false and inaccurate.”

“Why is Emma Chamberlain asking 10,000 for an Instagram DM? This is wild,” asked a shocked poster.

Another fan added: “It’s crazy that she did this but we’ll have to see whoever paid the fee because they clearly have too much money on their hands.”

’10k?! All she did was make people obsess over coffee and lip balm (fair she’s in the fashion world now – but still) that’s crazy!!” exclaimed one.

A third joked: “It’s okay! If you pay in installments, it’s only 902 a month.’

In shock, another tweet simply said, “What the.”

However, Cozack, Inc. – Emma’s “merch company” – has responded to the allegations, saying false information was leaked to press offices.

They also insisted it stemmed from an “outrageous” reward tier that was never meant to be active or public, and stemmed from testing Emma was unaware of.

A statement from the brand that appears when you attempt to access Emma’s website states: “There have been false and inaccurate claims that Emma offered DMs to Chamberlain in exchange for $10,000.

“As background in 2018, without her knowledge, Cozack (Emma’s merch company) was testing a potential rewards program related to Emma’s merch.

“In testing, they created an outrageous never-activated reward level that should neither be active nor purchased.

“These bounty ideas were never run by Emma as they were not intended to be offered for sale or bounty, just for internal testing purposes.

“We suspect that data was activated and crawled by Google’s SEO indexing system and discovered by an individual who then began disseminating false information to press offices.

“This was never released and certainly never intended to be sold or bought. The test program was never on the main page or product listing site, which is another reason Emma was unaware of it.

“With the internet’s tendency to create false narratives around sensational stories, we wanted to bring you the truth first hand and from the source.

The Gen Z influencer went from total obscurity — where her first and only follower was her father — to credit for pioneering a whole new aesthetic on social media.

Instead of hyper-produced, stylized videos edited and filmed by a team, Emma’s uploads give followers a glimpse of everyday life as a “normal” person.
