Emma Heming commemorates her 16 year collaboration with Bruce Willis with an open message: "Anniversaries are difficult"

(CNN) – Bruce Willis and his wife Emma Heming have been married for 16 years.

On Wednesday, Heming celebrated the couple's anniversary by posting a photo on Instagram of her kissing Willis on the cheek. In the caption, she wrote: “16 years with this special man. My love and adoration for him only grows.”

The couple married in 2009 and have two daughters, Mabel and Evelyn.

Heming also posted a message on his Instagram this week about how difficult it can be to celebrate a relationship milestone while dealing with the “Die Hard” actor's health issues. In the video, she said she could “cry a lot” with a close friend.

“It's so important to have someone you can confide in with your feelings instead of suppressing them and trying your best to get through things, which is what I usually do,” Heming says in the video.

In February, Willis' family – including Heming, his ex-wife Demi Moore and his daughters – announced that the actor had been diagnosed with a form of dementia called frontotemporal dementia.

Heming, who has since spoken openly on social media about her experiences as Willis' primary caregiver, said in her video this week, “Holidays are hard, anniversaries are hard.”

He added that “building community and connections” helped him get through this year. “It was my lifesaver and I just want to thank them for it,” he said.

Heming wrote in the caption of her Instagram video about the “countless messages of love and support because Bruce is so loved” and said that these messages help her feel “less alone.”

“I wish I could respond to all the messages because they are deep, raw and poetic, but please know that I appreciate them very much,” he wrote. “I am very grateful to them.”
