Emotional Kym Marsh reveals her father can no longer receive chemotherapy as he battles terminal cancer – aiming to now ‘make lots of memories’

Kym Marsh has revealed her father David is nearing the end of his battle with cancer.

The 47-year-old singer announced in June 2021 that her father had been diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer after he delayed seeing a doctor during the lockdown.

She regularly updates BBC Morning Live viewers on his progress, but recently took some time off from the show to spend time with her father.

Host Gethin Jones said on Thursday’s show: “I know you’ve been spending quite a bit of time with your dad lately.”

“We know Dave very well at Morning Live and the reason you spent time with him is because you got some bad news, right?”

Kim replied: “Yes, Morning Live has been following my dad’s cancer diagnosis, which was about two and a half years ago, I believe, and unfortunately his latest scan results have shown that there are now more cancer deposits further up his spine.”

“They are doing further scans to see if it has invaded any more bones, but unfortunately they are unable to offer him chemotherapy.”

“So they advised us to spend a lot of time with him and make a lot of memories.”

“So that’s what we did, we went on a trail of lights for Halloween and he just enjoyed spending time with his family.”

Gethin pointed out that Dave always watches the show from home and announced: “We send him all our love and hope to see him again soon.”

On Father’s Day, Kim surprised Dave with an ice cream tattoo as a tribute to her forearm because he has had an “obsession” with sweet treats since his cancer diagnosis.

The former Coronation Street star shared the sweet moment she revealed the artwork to her father for the first time.

She wrote: “So…I got a new tattoo for my dad!!!” He’s been obsessed with ice cream ever since his terminal cancer diagnosis! He literally has one every day!

“So I stuck an ice cream cone on the inside of my forearm to remind me of my wonderful father.” Every time I look at it!! He is the best ever! I love you dad.’

Kym shared a gallery of selfies on her social media in honor of Father’s Day and gushed that her dad “inspires her daily.”

She wrote, “Happy Father’s Day to the legend that is my dad.” Dad, you inspire me daily. Your life force has always been immeasurable.

“You handle everything life throws at you with a smile on your face and a joke always at hand.” You are the best father anyone could ask for and I am so glad you are mine.

“Here’s to you, Dad! Always your shadow. I love you always and forever.’

The Waterloo Road star revealed her father was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer in 2021 after a PSA test, a blood test that helps detect the disease.

She said: “I think a normal reading is between two and four, and Dad’s was well over a thousand, so they knew something was wrong.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dave initially delayed seeing his GP, even though he was experiencing pain and other symptoms.

Kym continued: “Dad knew how busy the NHS was with the pandemic and didn’t want to be a burden, so he put off going to the doctor.”

“Unfortunately, by the time he actually went there and the cancer was discovered, the cancer had already spread to his leg, rib, pelvis and spine.”

“The diagnosis was devastating for all of us, but since then he has received the best possible care.”
