According to CIUSSS-MCQ, the work of union members in the public health network has been reorganized for ten months with the aim of reducing mandatory overtime.

The measures that have been taken include, for example, the merging of departments, staff movements and a compulsory working weekend of three weeks.

The demonstration that took place in Trois-Rivières is unrelated to the FIQ strike movement.

The union estimates that 200 employees have resigned since the new measures were introduced.

“It pushed more than a hundred employees here in Mauricie-Centre-du-Québec to the exit. When we are in negotiations, our aim is of course to attract medical professionals, to retain them, and not to create a migration like the government’s decision to push them even harder,” explained Julie Bouchard, President of the FIQ.

Health professionals who do not work in the system in Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec came to the demonstration along with their colleagues.

“Your employer’s decision resonates at the bargaining table […] These are terrible working conditions for us,” she continues.

At the height of the demonstration, 250 people strolled through the streets of Trois-Rivières.
