At least 21 people died in violent thunderstorms and at least one tornado crossed the Mississippi River Friday night, causing extensive damage.

In this other episode that reveals the true effects of climate change in the United States, houses have had their roofs ripped off, entire cities left without power.

Residents of Silver City and Rolling Fork describe how the storms devastated their town. In the latter, a witness claimed that she now looked “erased.”

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Brandy Showah told CNN. “[Rolling Fork] was a nice little town, and now it’s gone.”

In addition to houses, buildings were also destroyed, trees and power lines were knocked down.

The bodies were found mostly in homes, but also on paths and roads in severely damaged communities.

Aid workers struggled to help the victims as debris blocked the roads.
