A couple from Roxton Pond, in the Eastern Townships, fear for their safety after a fourth vehicle crashed into their home due to a difficult corner on Route 139 in less than a year.
“We want to have a baby soon, imagine if a child is playing outside when the next accident happens. We don’t feel safe on our own land anymore,” Audrey Leduc drops.

While Audrey Husson’s Jetta was parked in front of her home, she was hit after an accident on Route 139 on March 9th.
A curve on Route 139 just past the town of Granby towards Roxton Pond is the reason for these repeated road trips. A few weeks ago, Audrey Leduc was driving to work in the early hours of the morning when a driver missed her turn and crashed violently into the car parked in her driveway.

“If my girlfriend’s car hadn’t stopped him, the other car in my kitchen would have pulled into my house. I can’t imagine I was in my driveway at the same time,” she laments, adding that her wife Audrey Husson’s Jetta was declared a total loss.

speed and alcohol
The 57-year-old driver was handcuffed for disability and is expected to appear in court later, the Surete du Québec confirmed.
It was the fourth accident in less than a year. The former owner of the Estrie home also recalls at least five accidents that have happened outside his home, including two “serious”, over a period of several years.
Once a drunk woman “walked straight through and landed in the cedar hedges,” says Nicolas Châtelain.
“Otherwise my mailbox usually went. People didn’t necessarily stop. You wake up one morning and your box is lying in pieces on the street,” he explains.

A tractor-trailer truck lost a wheel after going off the road and ending up in the yard on June 30, 2022.
He states that in this range, where the speed goes from 70 km/h to 90 km/h, drivers tend to accelerate. He even saw motorists illegally overtaking in the curve.

concrete blocks
Audrey Leduc urged the Department of Transport to secure the road, for example by installing a crash barrier or even a lamp post. She still hasn’t gotten a reply from them.
“If the light isn’t on in my house, you have no idea there’s a curve, it’s so dark. It surprises you,” she says.
Concerned about her safety every time she was in her driveway, she had concrete blocks installed in her yard a few days ago.
“It’s ugly, but I need to sleep. It happened that the slightest noise woke me up so much that it stressed me out. It wasn’t funny anymore,” says Ms. Leduc.
