It was nearly 9:20 p.m. when disco-pop’s new queen, Lizzo, finally showed her nose on the Bell Center stage on Sunday to resume her canceled show minutes before doors opened. on May 4th.

As the curtain rose, the Montreal audience struggled to contain their excitement and screamed at the top of their lungs.

Wearing a bright yellow leotard, the American singer-rapper, who presented her The Special 2our, opened the night with her smash hits Cuz I Love You, Juice and 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready).

“Only songs about love, about self-love, are played here,” warned a message on the huge screen that adorned the back of the stage. This is also the general atmosphere that prevailed that evening, both aerobics and fun.

Lizzo, who boasts four Grammy awards on her mantelpiece, was joined by several musicians, three singers and a dozen dancers dressed in the same colors as her. Its fully lit stage had a retro look that went well with the pop disco funk sound and evolved beautifully throughout the performance.

Everyone seemed to be having fun on stage. The chemistry between the artists was palpable and downright contagious.

Even on the upper floors of the amphitheater there was dancing in the aisles. Nobody dared to sit on the floor, which was itself divided into a sitting part and a standing part.

A powerful voice

For Jerome, that powerful ballad from her album Cuz I Love You, Lizzo (real name Melissa Jefferson) swapped her sporty outfit for a gold and sequined jumpsuit.

After “Break Up Twice,” she offered a cute cover of Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” before moving on to “Special,” which had everyone walking with their arms raised. Lizzo took refuge at the back of the stage, where she leaned on her mic stand to produce more than impressive tones, thereby demonstrating the extent of her vocal range.

Later in the show, Lizzo touchingly picked up the track “Yellow” by Coldplay, then a technician appeared center stage and Sasha Flute, his flute, made his grand entrance. Lizzo, who provided a beautiful classical flute solo, moved on to her hit “Truth Hurts,” which brought her to fame a few years after its initial release.

On May 4, the singer canceled her concert in Montreal at the last minute due to a virus. Lizzo also took the time to thank her audience for waiting for her and coming back. “It’s a very different program tonight than what you should have in May, but it’s a lot better,” she added, before continuing with “I Love You Bitch,” which she dedicated to viewers.

Young rapper Latto, known for her radio hits Big Energy and Lottery, was set to heat up the room. Rather, it was his DJ, DJ Von, who held that position. During his performance, he expertly captured the hearts of audiences with dance hits from the 2000s played on his turntables, including Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Black Eyed Peas and even Adele. To compensate, he played some latto songs at the end of his lecture.

Lizzo, who will be in Hartford, Connecticut (USA) on Tuesday, will continue her UK and European tour later in the month.
