End of the actors’ strike in the United States: the Quebec industry comes back to life!

Between the screenwriters’ strike and that of American actors, it can be said that the entire film industry is badly affected. Montreal and the MELS studios are no exception. The end of the conflict is being welcomed as a real breath of fresh air.

At the microphone of Benoit Dutrizac, the president of the MELS studios, Patrick Jutras, explained to what extent the entire industry in Quebec and therefore hundreds of employees were affected.

“The MELS 2 and MELS 3 facilities were completely empty,” complained Mr. Jutras. There are job losses associated with foreign production.”

Even if the final agreement has not yet been ratified, this would only be a formality, believes the president of MELS. Montreal is already feeling the excitement building again in the industry, with American teams scheduled to arrive in Quebec on Monday.

However, Montreal is no longer the destination for American productions. According to Mr. Jutras, part of the reason is the decline in tax credits.

“Manitoba, Vancouver and Toronto are more competitive than us,” he said.

The city’s promotion teams remain active in attracting as many productions as possible to Quebec and using excellent local artisans.
