LUANDA, April 29 (RHC) – The Economic Community of Central African States – ECEAC – has concluded a ministerial forum to assess the security situation in the region, Angola’s foreign ministry confirmed.
In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) highlighted the exchanges during the first extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Technical Committee on Defence, Protection and Security of the Ceeac Peace Council, whose deliberations were held in Kinshasa, the capital of the Ceeac Democratic Republic of the Congo -DRC.
The event kicked off with speeches by the President of the Ceeac Commission, Gilberto da Piedade Veríssimo, and the Head of Regional Integration and Francophonie of the DRC, Didier Mazenga Mukanzu, who currently chairs the organisation’s Council of Ministers.
According to Mirex, the participants appreciated the reports from the chiefs of staff, the commanders-general of the police and gendarmerie, and senior officials from the Ceeac Peace and Security Council ministries.
Regarding the political and security situation, they spoke vaguely to the source about the existence of armed conflicts and the holding of electoral processes in member states such as Angola, Cameroon, Congo, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sao Tome and Principe and Chad.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Angola’s outlook has been described as stable despite some social and economic challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The forum also analyzed the adequacy of the documents of the Central African multinational forces and the structure of the regional general staff in accordance with the revised ECECA treaty.
The Angolan delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Téte António and included high-ranking officials from the Departments of Home Affairs and Defense and security officials, among other representatives. (source: Latin Press).
