Enough the untruths in the tram

Enough, the untruths in the tram

Notorious opponents of the tram, who are very present on social networks and on the radio, often claim that the project, made on “a napkin”, is illegal and shoddy and that citizens were not consulted. However, the Supreme Court just shut them down. It feels good.

Judge Clément Samson’s decision, which denied Quebec’s motion deserved better across the board, is frankly interesting and reassuring for citizens.

An external, independent and highly qualified party thus certifies, on the basis of the facts, that the work that led to the realization of the tramway has been carried out overall well and in compliance with the regulations in force.

After following this project from the beginning – which is not perfect, but will greatly improve travel and the development of the Quebec City region – I have criticized and often defended it.

Listen to the answers

Of course, that didn’t stop me from asking a lot of essential and legitimate questions, quite the opposite. But the answers made me consider not only the negative aspects, but also the much more positive ones for the common good.

Exactly this approach requires the journalistic analysis and chronicler work.

Similarly, citizens ask questions about a project of this magnitude. They also need to be heard, which has been happening extensively for more than 10 years.

However, citizens also have a duty to listen to the answers, which well-known opponents are careful to avoid.

The latter peddling the same untruths that take up a lot of public space, putting spokes in the wheel of a project that Mayor Jean-Paul L’Allier is already fondling.

Keep an eye

Mr. L’Allier was unable to undertake such a project due to lack of funds while several cities, now merging, competed against each other rather than working as a team.

I repeat that the project is not perfect and can be improved. Experts from the project office and elected officials are working on this.

They do so under the watchful eye of journalists who continue to ask questions… and make the effort to listen and understand.
