The snow that has piled up this week is delighting winter sports enthusiasts at Sherbrooke’s ski resorts, but also at Sherbrooke’s leisure and outdoor shops.
TVA Nouvelles visited two shops in Sherbrooke that sell winter gear this Friday. There have been customers in these two places since the first border on Wednesday. Some departments are particularly busy.
“In the short term, the shoe department is the most heavily frequented clothing department. When the weekend comes, the ski, snowboard and snowshoe departments will be working very hard,” explained Michel Poisson, co-owner of Momo Sports.
“When the first snow comes, it’s especially for the children. Anything younger sells a lot. […] A child [dont le] Coat no more, it’s a duty, with mittens, hats,” said Simon Gagnon, co-owner of Sports Experts Sherbrooke.
The snow also benefits the ski center. In Mont-Orford, in Estrie, the phone hasn’t rung for a few days. According to the general manager of Corporation Ski & Golf Mont-Orford, Simon Blouin, the ski resort achieved as many sales in two days as in the first ten days of November.
After the cold set in, Mont-Orford was finally able to start its guns this Thursday. In favorable weather, skiers can hit the slopes in early December.
