North Carolina country singer and Tar Heels fan Eric Church is offering unlucky fans a rain check after canceling an upcoming Texas tour stop to compete in the NCAA tournament.
Church announced Friday that he would be returning to the Lone Star State on September 2 for a “one-of-a-kind free show” in New Braunfels.
“Thank you San Antonio for letting me bring my family to this game,” Church said wrote on Twitter. “It took me a minute to figure out how and when to properly express my gratitude.”
Church was scheduled to bring his The Gather Again Tour to the AT&T Center in San Antonio on April 2nd.
Concert-goers didn’t have much to say on Wednesday when they found out the “Springsteen” singer would drop them through a Ticketmaster message.
“As a lifelong Carolina basketball fan, I’ve watched Carolina vs Duke fights over the years,” Church said. “But to have her in the Final Four for the first time in NCAA tournament history is every sports enthusiast’s dream.”
“That’s also the most selfish thing I’ve ever asked the choir [his fanbase] to do: give up your plans for Saturday night with us so I can have that moment with my family and my sports community,” he continued.
The AT&T Center offered ticket refunds to fans, but many took to Twitter to complain about non-refundable travel expenses.
“Will Eric pay for her motel, her food and her travel? He ruined a lot of people’s weekends.” @Douglas89979785 wrote.

“How is it free when they already paid for the tickets and now they have to travel to New Braunfels lol,” one Twitter user asked.
