Defenseman Erik Karlsson has had the best season of his career with 101 points and may be on his way to his third Norris Trophy. However, the Swede could probably change his address soon.
Karlsson would love to play for a team aiming for high accolades and the Sharks are in the process of rebuilding. Therefore, according to TSN, the two parties would like to work towards an exchange.
However, it will not necessarily be easy to deal with the player.
First, Karlsson has $46 million to rake in over the four years remaining on his contract. That can deter many.
In addition, the 33-year-old full-back’s contract includes a no-move clause.
So if a deal can go through, Karlsson will need to approve the final destination, which may limit options.
Despite his 101 points in 82 games in the 2022–23 season, Karlsson finished his season with a -26 difference.
Over the course of his career, he accumulated 761 points in 920 games. He has played with the Sharks for the last five seasons after being traded from the Ottawa Senators. With the California squad last season, Karlsson never played more than 56 games in a season.
