“Boys” actress Erin Moriarty returned to Instagram on Friday, just a week after leaving the platform, promising a “extensive, if not permanent, break.”
Her decision to leave the social media network came after Megyn Kelly harshly accused Moriarty of being obsessed with plastic surgery.
“She has Kim Kardashian's lips, her nose is so thin it looks like a pencil now,” Kelly said. “I think it’s like a sign of mental illness.”
Moriarty, 29, responded by dramatically announcing her departure from Instagram, explaining that she was not deleting her page but would stop posting because the public had “lost privileges on this account.”
However, this Friday she relented and posted an Insta Stories message expressing gratitude to the “at risk” fans who “came to me to talk to me” and “share stories that are far more should be heard as mine”.

The caption was accompanied by a picture of her cradling one of her dogs while flashing a beatific smile at the camera.
She began her message to fans by declaring that she was “stopping by to say: 1) I love you all and 2) I'm grateful to hold my little guy again.”
Moriarty added, “And 3) to those who came forward to talk to me, who were vulnerable enough to let me know, 'You're fucking amazing.'” Stories that should be heard MUCH more often than mine. I believe we still have a long way to go. in the meantime: talk to me.'
The Jessica Jones alum insisted, “I want to hear it.” Safe zones, empathy and/or sympathy, and catharsis: a medicinal combination. trust me.'
Moriarty announced her first departure from Instagram, a week after Kelly sparked backlash with a recent podcast episode in which she took aim at Moriarty's appearance.
Moriarty chose not to completely deactivate her Instagram account so fans could continue to see her scathing message directed at 53-year-old Megyn Kelly.
She told fans and haters alike that they had “lost the privilege of this account.”
Moriarty, 29, said in a highly emotional statement that she was not deleting her social media account but would instead take a “full, if not permanent” online break
Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly recently sparked backlash with a podcast appearance in which she said of Moriarty, “She's got the lips of Kim Kardashian, she's made her nose so thin that now it's like a pencil looks like… I think it's like a sign of mental illness'
The actress wrote, “The only reason I haven't deactivated my account is because I'm going to leave it here.” Otherwise, consider it deactivated.
“I will not have access to it during an extended, if not permanent, break.”
“Social media is something I don’t take for granted and I’ve invested a lot of energy into getting in touch with you.”
“And I am appalled by the reaction, the reductive assumptions and the video mentioned above.” [of Kelly’s comments] This is a prime example of such harassment.
“It broke my heart. You have broken my heart. You have lost permission for this account.
“The way it was spoken about, the way I was spoken to, I will not accept it. “I found myself in a hole and was consumed by this personal situation.
“You never know what someone is going through, social media is a platform that is not representative of a whole person and regardless, there is no excuse for the words that were spoken directly to me or about me.”
Actress Erin Moriarty recently shared this picture on her Instagram, sparking accusations from Megyn Kelly that she had “completely changed her face” through plastic surgery. In response, Moriarty said the picture was taken a decade ago and her changed appearance was only due to “contouring.”
Moriarty shared the reaction nearly a week after Kelly's controversial podcast comments, saying she had “no idea what was going on amid the social media frenzy because she was going through “one of the most challenging weeks of my life.”
“And I thought specifically that when I came out of that period – so stressed out that I was barely able to eat and sleep – I thought, OK, I'm going to come out of this 10 pounds thinner and the verbal abuse/accusations will get out of hand,” she continued.
While Moriarty said she expected viewers to suspect she was on drugs or hit her with a “flippant 'just eat a burger' comment,” she was stunned by the hostile reaction that came instead.
“You learn to become Teflon and move on – I had NO idea what was going on this time,” she said in the post.
“Receiving news of a disgustingly false, to the point of ironic misogyny, counterproductive video of Megyn Kelly commenting on the way (sic) – learning how widespread this is horrified me.”
Although Kelly claimed in her appearance that the picture of Moriarty, which the actress recently shared on her Instagram before deleting it, was from “a year ago,” Moriarty said that it was actually much older.
Moriarty, 29, called Kelly's comments about her appearance “completely misinformed, inaccurate and clickbait.”
Moriarty shared the reaction nearly a week after Kelly's controversial podcast comments, saying she had “no idea what was going on” amid the social media frenzy because she was going through “one of the most challenging weeks of my life.”
She said the picture was “actually taken about a decade ago, before I was of legal drinking age,” and urged Kelly to “perhaps do some research that would take 30 seconds.”
“It's shocking how completely misinformed, inaccurate and addicted to clickbait the people we follow and think are informed are,” Moriarty said in the angry post, which contained a number of grammatical errors.
The comments in question came earlier this month on Kelly's podcast with journalist Michael Knowles, in which she accused Moriarty of “completely changing her face” through cosmetic surgery.
She made the comments in response to Moriarty sharing the supposedly ten-year-old picture this month, while Kelly continued: “She has Kim Kardashian's lips.” She has made her nose so thin that it now looks like a pencil .
“She has something like what looks like.”[s] For me it's cheek implants.
“More and more young women are doing this.”
“It's not about an objection to plastic surgery, it's about the obsession with turning yourself into this false version of yourself… I think it's a sign of mental illness.”
“It's extremely disturbing.” For me, it's just a huge repulsion. I really want to get into the minds of these young girls and say, 'Please don't do this,'” she said.
