Ethiopia and Czech Republic commit to improving cooperation

Ahmed arrived in Prague this Tuesday on an official visit and was received by Fiala at the government office. Both sides pledged to improve cooperation in agriculture, mining and tourism while strengthening ties in the defense sector, the African leader’s office announced on its X account on the social network.

On November 4, Fiala arrived in Addis Ababa on an official working visit, during which he also discussed bilateral issues and ways to improve existing relations to promote mutual development with the Ethiopian Prime Minister.

A day later, he received an update on the cooperation of both countries in the water sector from the head of the Water and Energy Department, Habtamu Itefa, who highlighted the Czech financial contribution to this local area.

Itefa announced at the time that cooperation in hydrological studies amounts to more than 38 million euros and that the Czech presence in the field of surface and groundwater research exists in the Somali, Sidama, South and Amhara regions.

According to the Ethiopia News Agency, the Czech Geological Service (CGS) has a long history of cooperation since the late 1970s, including hydrogeological mapping of Ethiopia.

This latter information is crucial for the management of local water resources, which are under increasing pressure due to population growth and climate change.

The Czech Prime Minister’s visit is evidence of the strong and long-standing relations between both countries and their shared commitment to water security and sustainable development, the publication said.
