An etiquette expert has sparked online debate after revealing how to eat pizza the chic way in a viral TikTok video.
Based in London and Berkshire, Lucy Challenger, 38, is the founder and CEO of high-end Mayfair agency Polo and Tweed, which places staff for wealthy clients.
She is also a TikTok creator and has garnered more than 6 million likes for her videos, which teach Gen Z social media users the essential manners and etiquette they need to fit into the upper echelons of society.
In a recent video, Lucy explained how one would eat pizza in a formal British setting. She gave precise details on which cutlery to use and how to cut the cake – she insisted that you should eat pizza with a knife and fork, starting with the smallest point of the triangular slice and working your way down to the crust.

The video, which racked up more than 250,000 views, drew mixed reactions from commenters – some vehemently opposed to the idea of eating pizza with cutlery
In the video, she says: “At formal dinners in the UK, you’re unlikely to be served pizza.
“But if you were, you would use a knife and fork to eat. According to many of my Italian friends, eating a pizza with a knife and fork is perfectly fine.
“First, you would cut a triangle into the pizza. Start in the center, then cut through the pizza in a zigzag motion and repeat to get a neat triangle.
“Now we would work from the smallest point of the triangle to eat.
“I cut off a small, bite-sized portion, skewered it with my fork, and then popped it in my mouth.
“I repeat this process, working the triangle up, down to most of the crust.”
Noting that “you can obviously pick up pizza whenever you want,” she added, “but in a formal British setting I recommend using a knife and fork.”

The method received mixed feedback. Some social media users said they probably wouldn’t take the formal approach when eating pizza.
One commenter said: “I don’t care if I dine with the Queen at Buckingham Palace, I pick it up and fold it with my hands.”
Another added: “If you ever catch me doing this put me out of misery.”
While a third said: “I’m glad I don’t go to formal places, I’d be so mad I couldn’t just shove it in my mouth.”
While some commenters hated the idea of eating pizza with cutlery, others appreciated the more sophisticated style, with some even saying they “love” it.
However, others appreciated the formality, writing, “I eat pizza with a knife and fork too, I hate greasy fingers…”
Another agreed, adding: “Everyone here uses a knife and fork for pizza when we’re in a restaurant, at home we usually just use our hands.”
