EU begins accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova

While the Kremlin threatens to destroy Ukraine, the 27 EU leaders waver over the nature and extent of their support for Kiev. At least they pave the way for accession negotiations.

Brussels. “When will we have peace? When we have achieved our goals.” At his annual press conference on Thursday, Vladimir Putin left no doubt about how he views the situation on Ukraine's battlefields. In other words, positively – and absolutely: “Our armed forces are improving their position on practically the entire front line.” If Ukraine, which the Russian ruler does not recognize and whose name he therefore does not want to name, continues to defend itself against the invasion he ordered, “then “We will resolve this with violence.”
