Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney Joins Marvel’s Madame Web

EXCLUSIVE: After a breakout year that included starring roles in the HBO series White Lotus and Euphoria, Sydney Sweeney is now ready to jump into Sony’s universe of Marvel characters. Sources tell Deadline that she has joined Dakota Johnson in Sony Pictures’ Madame Web. S. Jay Clarkson is ready to film. Matt Sazama and Burke Sharpless wrote the screenplay, while Kerem Sanga also wrote the previous draft.

In the comics, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis, and as such she was connected to a web-like life support system. Due to her age and health, Madame Web has never actively fought any villain. For this reason, sources stressed that the project could turn into something else. Sony is enjoying a successful streak: Venom: Let There Be Carnage has earned over $500 million worldwide, and Spider-Man: No Home has become the biggest film of 2021 with $1.85 billion in worldwide sales.

Not only is Sweeney on one of the hottest shows of the year at Euphoria (HBO recently announced that it’s the network’s second most watched show after Game of Thrones), she’s clearly one of this season’s big winners and quickly climbed to the top of the lists. young rising stars of every major studio. Sources say Sweeney has been mulling over several offers in recent weeks, but the opportunity to join Johnson in what was to be the first female-focused film in this universe was too good to pass up.

Sweeney has had a busy 12 months, which began with her spectacular role in another hit HBO series White Lotus. In terms of film, she had starring roles in Amazon Voyeurs and Blumhouse’s Nocturne. She is currently filming Tony Toast’s National Anthem which also stars Simon Rex and Halsey.
