It’s a win that comes as no surprise. Ukraine, who have been declared favorites for several weeks, won the Eurovision Song Contest this Saturday, May 14, 2022. The victory was won by the rap group Kalush Orchestra, which performed the winning song “Stefania”.

The Kalush Orchestra enabled Ukraine to win the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest. The group formed in 2019 before releasing two albums in 2021. They performed their track “Stefania” on the Turin stage, a tribute to the singer’s mother but also to Ukraine, perceived as a motherly figure while she is currently at war with Russia.

This is a record in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, no country has ever received so many points from the public. Overall, Ukraine has 631 points.

Serbia wowed the audience with its socially engaged song about public health and hygiene. She leads the table with 312 points. We don’t yet know how many points the big favorites Great Britain, Switzerland, Spain or Ukraine have received.

All national judges have disclosed their point distribution. Before the public vote, this puts the United Kingdom at the top of the rankings, ahead of Sweden and Spain. Ukraine is fourth. France, for their part, are penultimate with only 9 points.

France was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 by the Breton group Alvan and Ahez. This formation consists of four members: the female trio Ahez Marine Lavigne, Sterenn Diridollou and Sterenn Le Guillou, and the musician Alexis Morvan-Rosius, known as Alvan. They were selected on March 5th as part of the “Eurovision France: You Decide” program. The Tricolor group performed the song “Fulenn” on the Turin stage, which means both “spark” and “pretty girl” in Breton. With 17 points, Alvan & Ahez finished 24th out of 25 at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. France has not won Eurovision since 1977 and Marie Myriam’s victory.
