The relatives of a young student who wanted to become a paramedic and fought wildfires with the Canadian Army this summer have been reeling in complete incomprehension since he was shot in Saint-Leonard in late November.
“It's very difficult to understand, everyone loved Samy, he was sociable. “Her absence is really noticeable,” says Inas Belabar, a friend and classmate of the victim, full of emotions.
On November 30, Samy Alioueche was murdered in a vehicle in the Saint-Léonard district.

It was a passerby who discovered the lifeless body in the afternoon in a vehicle that had stopped in the middle of Place de Fontenelle, near the intersection with Rue Jean-Talon.
Student involved
According to the Journal's research, the 19-year-old young man had no criminal record.
He was in his third year of studying prehospital emergency care technology. He had also enrolled as a cadet out of high school and was now a corporal in the Canadian Forces Infantry.

As part of the Army, he helped fight wildfires in Quebec this summer.
“I remember he wrote to me: ‘Mom, we saved Clova.’ He stood in the second row behind the firefighters and made sure the fires didn’t break out again,” recalls Samy’s mother, who preferred not to identify herself wanted.
She was so proud of her son, who studied prehospital nursing “to save his brothers in arms and help people,” she said through tears on the phone.

“He always wanted to help the people around him, that made him really proud. He was generous with his time and his person,” admits Inas Belabar.
Unexplained
Montreal police are still trying to understand the circumstances of this murder, which occurred in broad daylight. Those close to the victim are confused as to why the student was targeted.
“Nobody understands. He was such a good, honest, sincere guy. He focused on the military and his studies. He is very close to his family, he would never have done anything that could have disappointed his parents,” emphasizes Neïla Lounnas- Acosta, who also studied with him at CEGEP.
Her boyfriend, who she considered a brother, now inspires her to be a better person, she says: “He had an influence on me. I tell myself that I would like to be a little more like him: generous, calm and seeing the positive and good in everything.”
“With every interaction, Samy left an indelible impression on those lucky enough to cross his path,” adds his friend Aliya Shaikh.
His classmates also started a fundraiser in his honor. The donations collected will be used to finance the purchase of an ambulance for a country in need.
“Even if he is no longer in this world, he will be able to realize his dream of helping people,” explains Inas Belabar.
