My superheroes
On July 4th, I introduced you to Dérick Pauzé, a 12-year-old teenager in the 1st secondary school with school support because he has a mild autism spectrum. Since he had a great passion for fishing, he dreamed of buying a rowing boat. To achieve this, he founded his company called Le petit Pauzé. Since then he has made some incredible Bob-Its for me to try and believe me, the trout love them. You can also purchase some of these by calling 819 660-1163. The good news is that Dérick sold enough bait last summer to buy a 9.5-foot JonBoat, an electric motor and a battery. Together with his father Carl, who works in the aluminum industry, they renovated the boat and it now looks like new. There are some who dream their lives, but you, Dérick, you live your dreams. Congratulations, you are a true source of inspiration, my young friend.
A great event
Fly fishermen are invited to the ninth Trois-Rivières Fly Fishing Show on November 25th and 26th at the Trois-Rivières industrial building. The volunteers of the Mauritius Society of Fly Fishermen invite fans and those aspiring to become fishermen to meet representatives from 29 companies, 23 experienced fly tiers and 14 non-profit organizations. Five speakers will follow one another in a throwing pool to inform and entertain you. If you want to try out a new fly rod in the pool, buy flies and tying accessories or just chat with enthusiasts, this exhibition is the ideal meeting place. Learn more : smpm.org or 819 384-5029.
Numbers for verification
If we rely on figures from the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks, it is estimated that there are 695,000 fishermen in Quebec. I disagree with this number and believe that it should be increased to at least 850,000 or even more, since the spouse, children under 18 years old and students under 24 years old are allowed to fish under the supervision of the license holder’s immediate possession. Most couples I know, with or without children, only have a driver’s license. It is interesting to learn that 79% of cane handlers learned from family, 11% from a friend and 9% learned on their own. The great thing is that 87% of all these wonderful people have, in turn, initiated someone else. In the same ministry report we learn that there are 294,000 hunters in La Belle Province. Of these, 71% were initiated by a family member. Half of Saint-Hubert’s new disciples were only between 10 and 17 years old during their first experience. About 16% were started by a friend and 12% learned it themselves. More than 188,000 Nemrods, or 64% of the 294,000 hunters, passed on their passion and knowledge to new followers.
