“Everywhere you go in Montreal is disgusting,” thinks one citizen –

Given the lack of snow cover in the metropolis, many citizens believe that Montreal's cleanliness leaves something to be desired and that the city needs to take measures to remedy the situation.

“It's not very clean. It's very, very dirty. Everywhere you go in Montreal it’s disgusting,” said one citizen interviewed by TVA Nouvelles.

Should street cleaning take place all year round during the winter season?

A publication by the general manager of downtown Montreal, Glenn Castanheira, on the social network X has reignited the eternal debate about the presence of trash on the streets.

Fortunately, the City of Montreal is currently concerned about the situation of some more problematic roads.

A cleanup operation was even launched for a portion of Sainte-Catherine Street, from Berri Street to Papineau Avenue.

According to the City of Montreal, the city government will not have the choice to adapt to a “climate change context.”

The changing weather conditions are forcing the city to consider new solutions, assures its administration spokesman Philippe Sabourin.

“Should the cleanliness brigades be there twelve months a year? […] These are questions that are addressed to the city of Montreal and we are looking at all the resources that need to be made available to be able to adapt to a context in which our winters and their changes are changing,” he says.

The official opposition at Montreal City Hall is calling on the city to set up trash cans and collect them more frequently.
