Evgeny Kuznetsov needs a change of scenery

Evgeny Kuznetsov “needs a change of scenery”

According to recent statements by his agent, Evgeny Kuznetsov is very dissatisfied with his situation in Washington. A transaction that takes him away from the capitals would now be the preferred option for his camp.

Agent Sergei Fedotov didn’t go four ways in an episode of a podcast reshared by website sports.ru about ten days ago, which merely suggests the 30-year-old center doesn’t feel out of place.

According to him, the partnership between Kuznetsov and head coach Peter Laviolette is not paying off.

“He had wanted to change teams for a long time, he was fed up with Washington. Also, it was exacerbated by the fact that Laviolette doesn’t play the ideal style of hockey for Evgeny Kuznetsov,” said the man who also represents Matvei Michkov.

Trade rumors surrounding the 30-year veteran are nothing new. The Russian isn’t considered the most disciplined player, notably having given a positive cocaine test in 2019 and twice contracting COVID-19 at the height of the pandemic.

“I know [Kuznetsov] “It’s been a long time and we’re friends,” Fedotov said. There are quite disciplined people. It doesn’t fall into that category. At the moment he no longer has this joy of playing ice hockey. Kuznetsov is not interested in anything without a spark.”

On the ice, the one with two seasons left on his contract and an average annual salary of $7.8 million had a rough year. He had 55 points but recorded a -26 difference. This is in stark contrast to the previous season when he had 78 points.

“He needs a change of scenery,” added his agent. He has a family, children, everything is fine with him. But he has to have the spark that comes from hockey that he lost.”

In 680 career games with the Capitals, Kuznetsov has 551 points. He had 67 points in 87 playoff games and clinched the Stanley Cup in 2017-18.
