Ella is best known for her collaboration with Rudimental on her UK number one single Waiting All Night, which won the Brit Award for British Single of the Year in 2014.
Her hits include Came Here For Love, We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off and Deep Down.
At the MOBO Awards 2014, she was also awarded Best Newcomer with her dark, soulful voice, followed last year by the award for Best Female Actress.
And her career continues to progress, because another album is due to be released this year.
Ella elaborated on where her passion for music came from: “As a young person, before social media, music was my way of expressing myself.” When you’re young, you experience your first heartaches, you make friends and you lose friends.
“Music was a real anecdote about it and healing, either in a sad or empowering way.” I love to dance and sing, even if I wasn’t good at the time it didn’t matter, it nurtured real human behaviors in me. I loved listening to songs with lyrics that really touched me.
“Once I realized I could sing and people stopped telling me to shut up, that was something I wanted for myself: to make music that makes people feel like I do.” feeling the music I loved and not feeling alone.”

Despite being in the public eye, Ella admitted that she likes to keep some aspects of her life private, such as her relationship.
Ella explained, “When we first got on social media, we shared things, it was fun to take pictures and post them.” Little by little you post too much and then you break up, but everyone has all this content and all this information that you cannot take back.
“I think the reason I’m staying private now, I think, is because once things are online, you can’t take them back.” It’s really important to keep things to yourself, and sometimes it can appear to be overcompensating for sharing too much. That’s why I think you should keep a little part of yourself to yourself.
“I think that also helps with hate and trolls because then they don’t know everything. Then the comments they make are irrelevant because they don’t have the information to make a guess about you.’
Ella recently showcased her singing talents when she performed at the launch of new wine brand JOY in Manchester on Wednesday night.

JOY is a brand new wine created to empower those who are fun, standout, seriously frivolous, inclusive and upbeat.
Speaking of working with the brand, Ella said, “I love that it’s very inclusive, it’s a fun brand.” It’s a very easy brand to relate to!
“I also love wine and a spritz.” My favorite is a white wine, but that depends on what I’m eating. The older I get, the more I experiment with my palette.
“Sometimes when it comes to wine, it’s hard to know what to choose when you’re new to it. When you go to a supermarket, the walls are lined with wine, but this wine makes it easier. There’s no reason you wouldn’t love it, it takes the hard decisions out of your hands and saves you time shopping.”
