EXCLUSIVE: Kerry Katona admits she couldn’t understand what I did wrong in infamous This Morning interview: ‘It was like I killed someone!’

Kerry Katona has admitted she couldn’t understand what she had done “wrong” after her infamous interview on This Morning in 2008.

During the chat, viewers accused Kerry of being drunk as she repeatedly slurred her voice throughout the chat, which she later revealed was a result of her medication for bipolar disorder.

Reflecting on the incident 15 years later, Kerry appeared on Slingo’s Getting Lippy Gossip Show alongside host Emma Conybeare and Web’s Rebecca Lawrence, where she explained that she soon became known for her “failures” rather than her professional accomplishments .

The former Atomic Kitten star, 42, recalled: “After my interview with This Morning you thought I had killed someone and I thought I don’t understand what I did so wrong?”

“I’ve had speech therapy and I have a lazy tongue. Because of my ADHD and the way I speak, sometimes I can’t pronounce the words properly.” Then you type in the medications I’ve been taking and your speech is slurred and it’s like, ‘Oh, she’s this, she’s that. “‘

During the interview, during which Kerry later explained that she was “put down” by moderator Phillip Schofield, she was questioned about her slurred speech and asked if she was “okay,” although she insisted it was her fault medication.

Phillip asked her, “You don’t seem all right with me sitting here. Your speech is a bit slurred. How do you feel now?”

Kerry then insisted that she was perfectly fine and had never been healthier or happier, explaining it was because of her medication.

The singer later revealed that she was harboring suicidal thoughts after the backlash to her interview, but credited her children with making sure she stayed strong.

The singer, who has five children: Molly, 21, Lilly-Sue, 20, Heidi, 16, Max, 14 and DJ, eight, explained: “I saw my mother slit her wrists when she was three years old .”

“She was always trying to kill herself and I’ve said I’ll never do that to my kids.”

Kerry continued, “But there were times when I would have actually made up my mind…I’m going to cry…but I would never do that to my kids.”

“Because I feel like that’s the root of my lack of self-esteem, because I was never good enough for my mom. ‘I never want my kids to feel that way.’

Kerry spoke about how she overcame periods of testing and criticism: “I became more and more known for my mistakes.” There were so many moments when I should be dead, moments when I was suicidal because I had nowhere to run .

“Now I have this platform and I feel like I’ve been a beacon of harassment, bullying, ridicule and anguish and I got through it and you know what it took me up to the age of 36, to realize that your opinion doesn’t.” Anyway, it’s none of my business what you think of me, what matters is what my kids think of me, and before that I was at a pity party.

“I just feel like I’m here for a reason, and that reason is to give people hope, because I never had that hope.” There was nobody I looked up to like me.

“And it sounds really narcissistic and selfish when people say, ‘Who did you look up to, who’s your hero?’ I’m my own hero because nobody helped me — be your own hero.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Kerry addressed another highly publicized moment in her life when she admitted that the affair she had during her turbulent marriage to Mark Croft was the “best thing she’s ever done” since she “saved her life”.

The singer split from the former taxi driver in 2010 after three years together. Their relationship was marred by allegations of cheating from both parties, claiming he was “obsessed with spending her money,” which contributed to her bankruptcy.

Kerry eventually broke up with Mark for good after he said she cheated on him with ex-Royal Marine Kevin Green, whom she met at GI Jane boot camp.

She explained, “I had an affair myself when I was dating Mark Croft and it was the best thing I’ve ever done.”

“We were both married, we were both madly in love, he left his wife for a while, but for me it just…saved life.”

The couple have had a tumultuous relationship since they wed at Gretna Green on Valentine’s Day 2007.

Their wedding took place six days before the birth of their daughter Heidi. In April 2008 they welcomed a son, Maxwell Mark.

Shortly after the ceremony, it was said that Mark had slept with a former lover in the days following their engagement and had also had an affair with a second wife.

He was then apparently pictured stroking a stripper in Mallorca while on a short holiday with Kerry and their children.

They finally split in 2010 when Kerry met Kevin in January when he agreed to help out at a weight loss boot camp class in Kent.

Her progress was also followed by a camera crew for the ITV2 show Kerry Katona: The Next Chapter.

The singer admitted to kissing Kevin but insists the relationship didn’t progress because they were both married.

Kerry and Mark have had several public altercations over the course of their relationship, with the singer previously accusing him of contributing to her public fight against drugs and accusing him of stealing her money.

In a 2010 speech, he admitted his obsession with spending her money and revealed how he had helped squander her millions and bankrupt her, but claimed that claims he was behind her drug problems were untrue be.

Mark told how he spent £1.4million on fancy cars and ditched a £135,000 Ferrari because it was too wide for Sainsbury’s car park.

Kerry was left bankrupt in 2008 for failing to pay the last £87,000 of a £417,000 tax bill.

He told The News Of The World at the time: “If someone said to you, ‘You don’t have to work’ because he has loads of money, what would you do? ‘I had the life of Riley.’

Mark also revealed that he capitalized on her popularity by accepting payment from the paparazzi to reveal her whereabouts. He even revealed details of the emotional first meeting between Kerry and her birth father’s children.

“It’s a bit crappy but it was worth a couple of hundred pounds.” “If I hadn’t done it, someone else would have,” he told the publication.

Speaking more about her bankruptcy on Getting Lippy, she explained, “When you go bankrupt you feel suicidal and you feel ashamed, you thought I had leprosy or AIDS or something!” When you go bankrupt because no one else does want to touch or get near you and you’re like, “I haven’t changed!”

She continued, “Bankruptcy is a dirty word, it’s like, ‘Oh, she’s got crabs,’ and I’d understand if you wouldn’t come near me!”

“I was a millionaire, I was minted.” And the accountant actually got sent down because he didn’t just do that to me, but to a lot of people. Apparently Matt Croft robbed me too.”

But despite the difficulties, she claimed bankruptcy was the “best thing that ever happened.”

She reasoned, “Looking back now, they were like little rats.” They all just disappeared because I’m not the gravy train anymore. As soon as she’s not the sauce anymore, they’ve all cursed!’
