Australian ‘Married At First Sight’ star Jules Robinson has revealed she filmed the entire series in ‘uncomfortable’ shapewear that made it difficult for her to go to the toilet.
The reality star, 41, is set to launch her inclusive FIGURE shapewear collection for the first time in the UK and explained in an exclusive interview with Web that it was her own uncomfortable experience that inspired her to create the collection.
Jules, who married Cameron Merchant on the show in 2019, explained she would stop filming to go to the bathroom because it took so long to remove her underwear and dress.
She added that her own brand of shapewear, which she originally launched in Australia in 2020, fits all shapes and sizes and, most importantly, can be easily removed for toilet breaks.
She explained, “When I was on Married At First Sight, I wore shapewear for three months, and I was so uncomfortable that it kept rolling up or down.

“And then I came out of the show and I got such a nice reaction from the female viewers about my clothes and my confidence… They said things like, ‘I have a body like yours, and then I want to dress like that too.’ You.” ‘
Jules added that she faced body-shaming trolls during her time on the show, but decided to use her experience to “create something that feels awesome.”
“This really wasn’t a planned thing, it was literally the aha moment where I just look like I’m going to make the shapewear I want to make, the best pair of shapewear,” she said.
“So I made a character that you can go to the bathroom and leave on.” One of the most important things was that I was at the dinner parties and I was going to the bathroom, and I was only gone so long because I had my dress on had to have the floor, I would wear my shapewear to the floor and I would hold my mic in my hair, completely naked!’
“It’s not a seamless way to go to the bathroom, especially when you’re wearing a nice dress, you don’t want to take it off and put it on the floor, and of course when you’re on set it’s like, ‘Come on, it takes so long.”
“So I solved all those problems and the shapewear doesn’t roll up or down and you can go to the bathroom in it and it’s super comfortable.”
Jules went on to tell Web that she was caught off guard by the “amazing” trolling she was subjected to at MAFS and had to develop a “thick skin” to deal with it.
She continued, “It’s not pretty, it’s really mind-blowing, like what you get from other people, and nothing can really prepare you for that aspect of the dark side of television.”

“So that comes with a lot of self-care and learning how to manage that. Do you know all the rookie mistakes and so on in this world?”
“You read comments and things like that, it’s not wise.”
“Any advice, if people come up to me and say, ‘I’ll keep doing this, can you give me any advice?’ And I think I know it’s really hard, but don’t read comments.”
“You know when it’s out of sight it’s out of mind, it doesn’t matter, but you know it just comes with time and now you just don’t see those things because we chose not to.” do.”
“So that’s a really difficult aspect of it, but unfortunately it’s something that you have to have a thick skin on and say, ‘I like myself and I’m happy with myself, and words don’t really count.’
Jules explained that her FIGURE shapewear collection covers sizes 6-24 and has unveiled an ambassador program alongside the UK launch with a number of women modeling the collection.
Despite the advances in body diversity in fashion diversity in recent years, Jules told Web that more needs to be done.
She said: “I think about it so much, even in the last five years that there’s so much more diversity in advertising, and that’s why I thought to myself: if women see themselves in me, a lot of my comments are like that.” “It’s so great to see a curvy woman.”
“I feel like you really represent. I guess I was a little bit older than most people on reality TV and thought well, if most people recognize themselves in me.
“I want people to see themselves in the mirror, too.” And take inspiration from these other women.

“That’s why I always use all ages, shapes and sizes in my campaigns, my oldest ambassador is 78 years old.” And my youngest is around 25.
“So that’s how it was for me. That would be, you know, someone sitting at home and feeling like they don’t see themselves in commercials and they know it doesn’t fit, that it doesn’t feel good because they really just feel like to be seen, heard and represented. So that was my thought process.
“But I definitely think it’s changing, as far as fashion goes, it’s not really and there will be a lot of big labels that have all-wear included, but you go into the store and they only have up to the Size.” 14-16, all of the above is online only and therefore there aren’t enough supplies to fit them all.
“So it’s getting there, but it’s still not 100% the size inclusive of all things. I know myself that I need more because I’ve been to the shops and haven’t found anything that suits me and I’m leaving so upset.”
“You know when you want to go out and find someone close by.” You think there’s nothing that suits my body so well. It’s just such an awful feeling.
“So I think it’s definitely changing.” And you see, that’s because of online influencers and you know anyone can be a model. It’s how you approach it and have that confidence.”
Jules said she has had an extremely positive reaction to her range in Australia and hopes to see similar support from UK fans.
She and Cam were first married in the 2019 MAFS series, which became a catwalk hit when it aired in the UK during the 2021 Covid lockdown.
While many of the couples did not keep their wedding vows, their romance has stood the test of time and they are the proud parents of their son Oliver.
Jules has relocated to the UK to launch her new FIGURINE range and shared her plans to unveil the collection on a classic London bus tour of the capital.

The reality star has juggled parenting for her son Oliver, who turns three in October, and admitted she gets along with the so-called “terrible twos”.
She said, “He was just the most relaxed kid, so relaxed, and then something like a magic wand happens and they just change.” Yes, he’s lively. He has a lot of energy and a lot of fun, but you definitely have to try everywhere.
“Cam and I are listening to audios…and I’m just navigating through that time.” You know, they don’t go to 100, but to be fair, he was awesome.

Jules also shared her hopes that she and Cam could have another child in the future, after revealing that they were considering IVF to expand their family.
She added, “Yeah, I think if it doesn’t happen naturally, we can definitely see it in the future.” We really want that to happen for us, so we’re willing to do what we have to do. “
