Less than a year ago, Dean McDermott was living in the private enclave of Hidden Hills with his wife Tori Spelling – the daughter of a multimillionaire – and counted the Kardashians and Jenners among his neighbors.
But now he’s in the middle of a divorce from the “Beverly Hills 90210” star, waiting in line at a government welfare office and living in a rental house in the San Fernando Valley with four male roommates.
But there’s a bright spot in McDermott’s new life: the supporting actor has a new girlfriend – revealed for the first time in these exclusive DailyMail.com photos.
McDermott and his mysterious newbie were photographed holding hands on their way to the Department of Social Services’ West Valley office in Chatsworth on Tuesday, just an hour before it closed at 5 p.m.
The financially struggling Canadian, 56, appears to have fallen on hard times following his split from Spelling in June and has been forced to seek government support.
Dean McDermott was first spotted with his new girlfriend during a trip to the welfare office in Los Angeles. McDermott was dressed casually in a simple black T-shirt, worn blue jeans and biker boots, and was holding a stack of white envelopes that he planned to take into the government facility.
Interestingly, he was missing the $1,250 Balenciaga fanny pack he wore on an outing in LA last month.
His new brunette companion sported a pixie cut and an army green jumpsuit paired with Converse high tops.
McDermott has been out of the dating scene for nearly two decades, but his girlfriend didn’t seem to mind when a couple traveled to a government office to apply for benefits.
The couple were seen lining up outside the building and getting comfortable at some point while their partner helped make sure he had filled out his paperwork correctly.
Unlike the others in line, Dean seemed to be in a good mood and you could hear him giggling and cracking jokes as he waited.

There was a homeless camp on the street directly in front of the building and some of the cars pulling into the parking lot were dilapidated and had fallen bumpers.
It was clear that the government office was the last resort for Los Angeles residents in desperate need of financial assistance, food stamps and rental vouchers.
After about 40 minutes, McDermott and his girlfriend were let in by a security guard and then led through a metal detector.
They emerged after just 15 minutes and drove back to the well-maintained, two-story, five-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2,500-square-foot home with a pool that Dean shares with four roommates in the Valley.
Similar houses on his block cost between $6,000 and $9,000 a month, so it’s likely his share of the rent will be at least $1,000.
Meanwhile, wife Tori Spelling, 50, celebrated their daughter Hattie Margaret’s 12th birthday on social media on Tuesday.

In addition to the obvious marital strife, the couple also famously endured some financial struggles, racking up thousands of dollars in debt and facing multiple lawsuits from credit card companies over unpaid bills – which Spelling attributed to “bad shopping habits.”
During her childhood, Tori, whose father Aaron Spelling was one of the most successful Hollywood producers, lived in the second largest house in Los Angeles.
But her relationship with her parents seriously fell apart after she left her first husband, Charlie Shanian, to marry Dean in 2005. When her father died the next year, he infamously left her only $800,000 of his $600 million fortune.
At the height of their out-of-control spending as a couple, Tori and Dean were spending $16,000 a month on a gated hilltop property in the Lake Sherwood section of Ventura County.

While Candy reportedly continues to support her daughter, it now appears that Dean is on his own financially.
Due to the recent SAG-AFTRA strike, it is unlikely that he has received any acting jobs.
His other side gigs as a stand-up comedian and chef also failed.
Dean divorced his first wife, Canadian television host Mary Jo Eustace, 61, after meeting Tori on the set of the Lifetime TV movie Mind Over Murder in 2005. They have a son, Jack McDermott, 25.
