EXPANSION: Trucks carrying humanitarian aid enter Gaza via Rafah border crossing

GAZA/RAFAH, Egypt, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) — Twenty trucks loaded with humanitarian aid entered Gaza on Saturday through the Rafah border crossing, the only one open after a two-week blockade between the besieged Palestinian coastal enclave and Egypt.

The trucks were carrying medical supplies donated by Egyptian institutions of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work and the Egyptian Red Crescent, Aya Ahmed, public relations officer of the Creators of Life Foundation, told Xinhua.

“Such a limited caravan will not be able to change the humanitarian catastrophe that the Gaza Strip is experiencing,” Salama Maarouf, head of the Hamas government’s press office in Gaza, said in a statement sent to Xinhua.

It is important to establish a safe corridor that operates around the clock to provide humanitarian assistance and allow the injured to receive adequate medical treatment, which is lacking in Gaza, Maarouf said. End
