Expect the smell of smoke as the cold front moves through your area this afternoon.

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) — Wildfire danger remains high from noon until evening. The red flag warning is in effect for most of the WIBW viewing area. A couple of smoke plumes can be seen on our Capitol Federal Live Storm tracker this afternoon, so expect to smell a little smoke as the front passes through your area. The front can also cause some thunderstorms, but behind a cold front, the chance of a thunderstorm is greatly reduced. We’ll cool down to 20 tonight and fight for 50 tomorrow afternoon. A second chance for rain and snow will come tomorrow afternoon.

Tonight: Partially cloudy. Cons in the region of the 30s. Wind WNW 15-25 m/s.

Tomorrow: Rain/snow in the afternoon. Partially cloudy. Highs in the low 50s. Wind NW 5-10 m/s

Rain on Sunday evening gives way to snow on the night from Sunday to Monday. Accumulation is not expected, although it can snow quite heavily at times. Humidity will be a welcome change and much needed. From Sunday we will be cooler than usual, with temperatures of 50-40 degrees this week until Friday.

We get a blast of arctic air on a Thursday afternoon, and we’re chilling quickly. There is a chance to see snow on Thursday evening. The snow does not appear to be heavy at this time and may well move north towards us, leaving NE Kansas dry again. Highs in the 30s area on Friday with lows in the teens Thursday night and Friday night.
