A midwife from Repentigny who exploited her role in the COVID-19 vaccination campaign to obtain false vaccination certificates for herself, her relatives and a nurse has been dismissed from her professional order.
“These actions undoubtedly damage the profession’s image and undermine public trust. [Elle] “abused the trust not only of the public, his employer, but also of the State,” said the decision of the disciplinary council of the Order of Midwives of Quebec last year.
Janie Lacas, 44, is also charged with illegal use of a computer and creating false documents with the intent to use them, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Seven times
From December 2021 to March 2022, the midwife used the computers of the vaccination center where she worked and their access codes on seven occasions to enter incorrect data in several files.
“As a result of these fraudulent entries, two of her relatives, a nurse friend and she herself benefit from a false vaccination certificate, even though they did not receive the vaccination doses entered by the respondent,” the judgment says.
She was employed by the CISSS de Lanaudière, registered through “I contribute” and was assigned as a “diluter” to vaccinate against COVID-19.
At the time, she had worked as a midwife for 11 years and also served as an alternate union member of the Order for five years, with particular responsibility for investigating conduct that violated the Code of Ethics.
Lives destroyed
Before the disciplinary board, Ms Lacas claimed she had “destroyed her life for something that made no sense”.
She added that she was in psychological distress at the time, that she had not acted under threat and that she had not been paid for the fake passports.
Despite her 14-month ban, she quit the profession and was also dismissed from the CISSS.
Several health network employees are facing criminal charges for similar acts. This fall, a practical nurse was also struck off her professional record for submitting false vaccination records.
