Exploring current events in a humorous way with Mehdi Bousaidan

On Tuesday March 12, comedian Mehdi Bousaidan will present his second solo exhibition entitled Mouton at the Salle André-Mathieu.

The show's title is inspired by both his former pet Baaziz and “the tendency to be sheep, to follow the parade a little and not to ask too many questions.”

These two sources of inspiration represent the unique style of the comedian of Algerian origin: dry tone, linked to current events with a touch of absurdity and performance.

Both in view of his European tour in 2023 and in view of previous years, Mehdi Bousaidan considers his second show to be more mature.

“The rhythm is different,” says the artist who grew up in Sainte-Dorothée. My first show was a lot of staging, very complex and lots of cues. The second show is much more sophisticated. It's really jokes, more stand-up, lots of punch and still a fast pace. It’s fun, it’s a fire full of jokes.”

The former Montmorencia student draws inspiration primarily from his experiences and current events and will address topics such as digital dependency, inflation and the environment.

“It's all about dealing with information from a more humorous perspective,” explains the man, who now lives in Montreal. Nowadays we hear the news a lot and it's not particularly pleasant, so it's about giving a different perception. It’s about laughing at certain problems in society while remembering that they exist and that there are things to change in people’s behavior.”

These passages are also interspersed with anecdotes from his trip to Europe and his life as a newly married couple.

Mehdi Bousaidan will present Mouton on Tuesday March 12th from 8 p.m. at the Salle André-Mathieu (5, Boulevard de l'Avenir).
