Explosions in a railway tunnel between Russia and China. Ukrainian sources: “Our intelligence operation”

FROM OUR REPORTER
DNIPRO The Severomuysky Tunnel connects Russia with China and is one of the most important railway routes passing through Buryatia, the Russian Far East bordering Mongolia. While the explosion that hit him was the result of an operation by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU). This is supported by Ukrainska Pravda, citing an anonymous source in the Ukrainian security service. Portal also confirmed the news based on an anonymous SBU source that “on the night of Wednesday and Thursday, four explosive devices were detonated on a freight train passing through the tunnel in the Buryatia region, which borders Mongolia.”

In a tweet, adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko wrote: “This is the only serious railway between Russia and China.” And now this route, which Russia also uses for military supplies, is paralyzed,” write Russian media.

The city is almost 5,000 kilometers from Ukraine. Therefore, the operation would be a clear demonstration of Kiev’s ability to carry out operations on Russian territory, even in the deepest territory. Far beyond the Kerch Bridge, which connects Russia with Crimea, hit several times, far beyond the targeted killings like in the case of Dugin’s daughter, or far beyond the operations in the Belgorod region on the border with Ukraine and finally even further drones fired there over the Kremlin. Another fact would not only involve Russia in this case. But also China, which Kiev accuses of supplying the Moscow army with weapons.

Portal notes that it is difficult to independently verify the information or whether the rail line is being used for military supplies. Russian sources confirmed that a train had set fire to the area, but did not mention explosives. The Russian Investigative Committee said that “a train loaded with fuel caught fire in the tunnel,” that there were no injuries and that an investigation to determine the causes was underway. Russian Railways, the state-owned company that owns and operates the railway network, explains how the train was stopped when smoke rose from a tank of diesel fuel. An online statement said rail traffic had been rerouted, which slightly increased travel time, but there was no talk of a complete disruption.
