Police intercepted the driver, a 27-year-old man, around 4 a.m. Wednesday. He was traveling north near Edouard-Montpetit Boulevard in Montreal. The legal maximum speed in this area is 70 km/h. “He was driving at 2.7 times the legal limit,” said Sergeant Camille Savoie, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec.
In a 70 km/h zone, a driver who drives more than 120 km/h can have their license revoked immediately as this constitutes speeding. In addition to the administrative offense, his driving license was revoked for a period of seven days.
On November 16, Sûreté du Québec police officers also intercepted a vehicle traveling at 190 km/h on Highway 20, where the speed limit is 70 km/h. The driver, a 23-year-old woman, was traveling westbound near Pullman Street in Montreal. She was also fined $2,155 with 24 penalty points and her driver's license was suspended for a period of seven days.
Speed is one of the main causes of fatal accidents on Quebec roads, recalled the Sûreté du Québec.
