Ezra Miller arrested for assault in Hawaii, second arrest in weeks

Ezra Miller has been arrested in Hawaii for second-degree assault, less than four weeks after the ‘Flash’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts’ star was arrested for disorderly conduct and harassment in Hilo, Hawaii.

Miller was arrested early Tuesday morning following an incident at a private home in Pāhoa. Patrol officers were responding to a report of an attack that occurred at a meeting in the Leilani Estates subdivision in lower Puna. According to the Hawaii Police Department, Miller allegedly became angry after being told to leave the house and threw a chair, hitting a 26-year-old woman in the forehead and sustaining a cut about half an inch. The woman refused treatment for the injury.

Police arrested Miller at 1:30 a.m. after the actor was found in the roadway during a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 130 and Kukula Street in Kea’au. Miller was released at 4:05 a.m. after consulting with the district attorney’s office pending further investigation. The investigation remains active.

Miller’s first arrest was on March 28. South Hilo officials were responding to a report from a disorderly bar patron that Miller had become unruly and shouted profanities while other patrons sang karaoke. Miller grabbed the microphone of a singing woman and lunged at a man playing darts. After being arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and harassment, Miller posted $500 bail and was released from custody.

A Hawaiian couple filed a restraining order against Miller the day after the initial arrest. The restraining order claimed that Miller barged into the couple’s bedroom and threatened them, and that Miller allegedly stole some of the couple’s belongings, including a passport and wallet. A judge dismissed the order on April 13 at the couple’s request.

Miller was the source of 10 police calls in Hilo since March 7, according to Hawaii Deputy Police Chief Kenneth Quiocho.

The second arrest comes less than a week after the US release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, in which Miller has a supporting role in the Harry Potter spinoff franchise. The latest Fantastic Beasts took off from a franchise low after being beset by a series of controversies. In addition to Miller’s arrests, actor Johnny Depp has been fired from the franchise amid his own legal battles, and Harry Potter author JK Rowling has come under fire for anti-trans comments she made on social media. Also on Miller’s list is the DC Comics standalone film The Flash, slated for release on June 23, 2023.

Variety has reached out to representatives from Warner Bros. and Miller for comment.
