The reigning world champion, who started from pole, coped with a wet start and stayed out of trouble for most of the race to close the gap at the top of the drivers’ standings to 27 points.
Teammate Sergio Perez was second after Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc spun off the track after threatening to disrupt the Red Bull shutout in the closing stages.
In truth, it was a race to forget for Ferrari, who saw Carlos Sainz crash on the first lap and Championship leaders Leclerc ended up in sixth after his mistake.
It was particularly disappointing considering the amount of support the home side had in Italy this weekend.
However, it was Lando Norris who benefited the most from Leclerc’s mistake as the McLaren driver surprisingly finished third.
Red Bull celebrates a strong weekend
It was pretty much the perfect weekend for Verstappen as the Dutchman took maximum points after winning Saturday’s sprint race. He also got an extra point for the fastest race lap on Sunday.
“Today you never know how competitive you will be with the weather, but I think we did very well and this one-two is well deserved,” said Verstappen after the race.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton kept fighting and finished a low 14th. The former champion also suffered the humiliation of allowing his bitter rival Verstappen to pass him when he was stuck behind a train of slower cars for most of the race.
Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate George Russell did better, finishing fourth – although team boss Toto Wolff apologized for the car, both had to drive.
F1 is now on a two-week break before heading to Miami.
