Facebook users: The social network may owe you money

Those who owned a Facebook account between May 2007 and December 2022 could receive a portion of the $725 million Meta has to pay after a four-year class action lawsuit.

Facebook users who have lived in the United States and want their piece of the pie have until August 25, 2023 to submit an online complaint form, The Independent reported Thursday.

After a four-year class action lawsuit last December, Facebook’s parent company Meta agreed to pay its users $725 million for allowing data firm Cambridge Analytica to see private information — about 87 million of them.

The latter would have supported Donald Trump in his 2016 election campaign.

Thus, internet users who had a Facebook account at any time between May 2007 and December 2022 and lived in the US during the same period could be eligible for a share of the bonus.

The final amount each receives depends on the number of claims as well as how long the user has had their Facebook account, according to CNBC. According to the latest data, according to market and consumer data site Statista, Facebook has 2.96 billion monthly active users.
