With the heat wave in China, the socalled “facekinis” fullface masks for sun protection that only expose the eyes, mouth and nose are being used again by the Chinese. Temperatures top 35°C and the ground surface reaches 80°C in some parts of the country.
The accessory is currently not the only product. Residents and visitors to the country wear separate sleeves to cover their arms, light jackets made from UVresistant fabric and even hats with builtin fans all to protect themselves from the scorching heat.
According to the Global Times newspaper, the volume of orders for sun protective clothing increased by 136.8% per year in the period from May to June. In 2023, the order value increased sevenfold compared to the previous year.
On Wednesday, Chinese state television showed a 12metertall thermometer, attracting tourists and taking numerous selfies. The temperature was 80 °C, which refers to the flame mountains in Xinjiang.
According to the World Meteorological Organization, June was the warmest global average on record, as was July. (Content Estadão)
