On the occasion of the participation of Sonia LeBel, President of the Treasury Board, in the program “Everybody talks about”, a meeting of the Autonomous Education Federation (FAE) will take place on Sunday evening in front of the new Maison de Radio-Canada in Montreal It.
Hundreds of FAE members gathered around 6 p.m.
The president of the FAE, Mélanie Hubert, then held a press conference where she stressed that members wanted to be there to show something [à Sonia LeBel] that their strike and their beliefs [sont] serious.
On November 23, the FAE’s 66,500 teacher members began an indefinite general strike.
We will be [en grève] As for how long it will take to demand better conditions for teachers and public schools, Ms. Hubert continued.
We hope that the message reaches not only the studios, but also Quebec and the negotiating tables.

The FAE president added that the meeting was organized in less than 24 hours and that members from Quebec City and the regions showed up in Montreal for the occasion. It shows the extent to which our people are mobilized, she said.
However, Ms. Hubert did not meet with the President of the Ministry of Finance.
There is no time for counter offers anymore
Quebec and the FAE have been negotiating for months over the renewal of the teachers’ collective agreement, which expired on March 31.
In an interview today on RDI, Ms. Hubert said she was ruling out the possibility of mediation in the coming days.
Now is not the time for counteroffers. Now is the time to find concrete solutions and listen to the real needs on the ground.
The school system has been neglected for too long, she continued. The discussions are evolving, but not quickly enough for us to hope for a concrete outcome in the coming days.
