FAE strike: More casualties to be expected for parents –

Almost ten days after the start of the indefinite general strike at the Autonomous Education Federation (FAE), what is the morale of parents who have to cope with the absence of more than 65,000 teachers in schools?

In an interview on the program “Salut Bonjour Weekend”, the president of the FAE, Mélanie Hubert, pointed out that the counteroffer presented to the government on Saturday did not mean that students would go back to school on Monday.

This counteroffer is based on the priorities of the FAE, which brings together nine unions from the south of the province.

Here are some reactions from parents collected on site by our journalist Marc-Antoine Le Moignan.

“It causes problems for us, but we are not against it. We are on the side of the unions,” says one man.

“So far, it’s good. It’s only been a week, so it’s OK for now,” said a Montrealer who feared the strike could last until Christmas.

“My child has a learning disability. I don’t think he enjoys missing school, but at the same time I think they work for them. They are very proactive at his school. I think it’s worth it,” said one mother.
