One Australian family’s overreliance on GPS turned into a very risky moment. According to the New South Wales State Police, the family, who were reported missing on August 8, were wanted by authorities after they failed to complete a trip between the state of Queensland and the town of Packsaddle.
In addition to several people, there was even a helicopter on the ground during the search. In the end, the family’s Hyundai Tucson was spotted around 50 km southeast of Tibooburra on August 9. People were there and were saved.
According to police, the incident happened after “Google Maps pulled them off the track onto a dirt track off a closed road where they got stuck in a remote area”.
The family didn’t have cell service, so they couldn’t ask for help. The occupants of the car even tried to go for help, but to no avail.
“I really thought we were going to die,” Darian Aspinall, one of the car’s occupants, told 7News. The family also revealed they only had a liter of water to share and that they also drank water from a puddle found at the site.
