Famous mansion on Sydney’s north shore that was once a Hollywood “house of horror” is being sold at auction for $13 million

A famous Sydney mansion immortalized as Hollywood’s “House of Horror” is set to go under the hammer with an eye-watering price tag of $12 million to $13 million.

In leafy Wahroonga, 20km from the CBD, is the sprawling nine-bedroom, six-bathroom historic home featured in the children’s film Goosebumps When Ghouls Go Bad, starring Christopher Lloyd, written for the Back in the future” series is famous.

The spectacular property, called Hazeldean, was built in 1893 as a 35-room guesthouse and served as a “holiday and honeymoon destination” for wealthy city residents.

The property was converted into a single-family home and carefully remodeled after it was purchased by businessmen John and Stella Dennis in 1997, the North Shore Times reports.

Historic preservation experts were brought in to repair damage after years of neglect and restore the palace complex to its former glory.

A well-known house in the prestigious North Shore postcode Hazeldean was designed by Varney Parkes, son of Sir Henry Parkes, the famous colonial politician.

The house won the Ku-ring-gai Heritage Restoration Award in 2002.
