The golden boy, who retired in 2008 after his loss to Manny Pacquiao, posted the shirtless video of himself shadow boxing to Instagram earlier in the week, showing off a striking six-pack abs.

Alongside the video, the 49-year-old former six-division world champion wrote: “2023 is about peace and freedom. Life changes are not easy when you decide to improve yourself.

“I’m progressing and training my mind, body and soul NOW!!! FYI I had to run to the bathroom after my workout because I ate 9 TAMALES.’

Fans were very impressed with De La Hoya’s muscular and lean physique – some pointed out that at almost 50 he looked in better shape now than he did when he was a boxer.

Earlier this month, the 49-year-old teased a return to boxing after posting a clip of himself shadow boxing on the beach.

‘Shall I do it again?’ was the caption on his Instagram post.

Irish veteran Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan was quick to reply, and the 38-year-old replied: ‘Looking great Oscar if you are [sic] In search of a dance partner, I would be honored to share the square circle with you.’

It’s unclear what the former champion’s goal is with his latest fitness rush, and if he’s getting in shape for a boxing match against YouTubers or former MMA fighters like others in his position have.

In 2021, De La Hoya sensationally called out Floyd Mayweather, claiming it was “the greatest fight you can do today.”

“It would be a pleasure to be in the ring with him and make it a big event and a great fight for the fans,” said De La Hoya.

De La Hoya and Mayweather previously faced each other in 2007, with ‘Money’ winning via split decision.
