Giovanni Pezzoli, drummer and co-founder of Stadio, died last night at the age of 70. The same band shared it on their social profiles: “Tonight at 9pm Giovanni sadly left us. Our minds and our hearts are filled with pain! Hello Giovanni. The Stadium”.
He had been struck by a serious illness in 2016, then hospitalized in November and announced last night. Giovanni Pezzoli had delivered his final message to fans on December 13th from his hospital bed: a video message of hope because after 3 weeks he was able to walk again.
“It’s a great day – said Giovanni on video – to play the drums it will still take some time, but I do not despair. With your presence, I may even be able to get there a little earlier. Thank you all. I want you Good”.
Pezzoli and Curreri have always been in the band since 1981.
The city’s condolences
Bologna gathers around the grief that has struck Gli Stadio. This is done through the voice of the Mayor of the Municipality and Metropolis of Bologna, Matteo Lepore, who wrote in a note: “I send my condolences to the municipal administration on the disappearance of Giovanni Pezzoli, born in Bologna and drummer at Stadio since its inception, the band perhaps most closely associated with the city. I remember our meeting when the Stadio came in January 2017 to collect the Golden Neptune that we wanted to give them the day after the 2016 triumph in Sanremo. At that moment we interpreted the feeling of the whole city and so today with that memory I want to greet Pezzoli”.
