A violent exit from the road killed a young motorist in Saint-Philémon in Bellechasse during the night from Monday to Tuesday. His passenger was also seriously injured.
The accident happened around 11 p.m. on Route 281 heading south, not far from the intersection of rang Saint-Arthur, in the small community in Chaudière-Appalaches.
The driver reportedly lost control before veering off track and swerving sideways. No other vehicle was reportedly involved.
“The two men, in their 20s, were transported to the hospital center with serious injuries,” explains Béatrice Dorsainville, spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The driver’s death was unfortunately pronounced shortly thereafter, while the passenger’s condition stabilized.
Route 281 was closed until 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning to clear debris and give investigators time to do their job.
The state police also report that speed may have played a role in this case. We also cannot rule out that the driver was affected by drugs or alcohol in the accident.
“An autopsy will likely be performed shortly to analyze this hypothesis,” says Ms. Dorsainville.
