Two counts of charges were brought against Jose Luis Raymond on Friday afternoon, who appeared before a judge later in the day.

The young man is accused of failing to stop after a fatal accident and of dangerous driving resulting in death. Two other cases of public mischief and attempted fraud reported by the police have not yet been formally accepted by the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP).

In the next few days, the accused will remain in custody until further court proceedings. According to the Longueuil Agglomeration Police (SPAL), the arrest of this suspect took place late Thursday afternoon, around 3 p.m.

On June 24, a woman in her 20s died in Brossard after being hit by the driver of a black van. The man then fled towards Boulevard Taschenreau without helping the victim. At that time, an extensive investigation was initiated.

The next day, authorities announced that they had confiscated the vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run. A black four-door Chevrolet Silverado was actually found in the Greenfield Park area where the suspect resides.

Despite the arrest, which was cheered by several citizens on social networks on Friday, the investigation into this case is still ongoing. Therefore, anyone with relevant information related to this case is asked to call 911 as soon as possible. It is also possible to report information by contacting a local police station in the neighborhood directly.

At the time of the events, a local resident who lives on the corner of Boulevard Rom and Rue Lautrec, Fannie Noiseux, had told La Presse that the neighborhood had been trying to get amenities from the city of Brossard for several years. “This intersection is a highway. People don’t hitchhike, it’s hard to be sure, she complained. I’ve been here for nine years, and many times we’ve written to the city with my neighbors to find solutions. »

The resident and her neighbors say they hope this new tragic event will ring bells in the town of Brossard. “We wrote to you again this morning. You must intervene, and it is urgent. We’ve been told this and that for two years; now it acts,” said the citizen.
